Bocce League
HISTORY of BOCCE BALL
Bocce Ball is one of the oldest known sports in the world, dating back to 5200 BC. When the game of bocce first started, it was played using rocks and coconuts. The ancient sport became popular during the Roman Empire's rule in what is now known as Rome, Italy, around 600 BC; Caesar Augustus was among the first notable players of this time. In the 19th century, Italian revolutionary Giuseppe Garibaldi made bocce ball an Italian national sport. In 1896, the first Bocce Olympia was played in Athens, Greece; bocce has been an International sport ever since.
Bocce ball is now the third most played sport in the entire world! Over time, the rules of the game have evolved, but the basic principle has always been the same— toss your ball as close to the Pallino ball as possible. Today, the USA has the World Bocce League, which organizes many bocce ball events and provides players with all the essentials. Bocce ball is a fun and competitive game enjoyed by everyone of all ages and skill levels. It is embedded into our culture and is one of the most popular sports today.
